Reading Goals 2013 ~ March Update

Though I met my blogging goals for the months of January and February, I can’t say I’ve met my reading goals during February.  I read.  Really I did.  Just not as much as I did in January and not as much as I wanted and I’m having a hard time remembering if I’ve actually finished a book in February.

Let’s see in my February update I said I was reading (or going to read):

  • The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan
  • False Witness by Randy Singer
  • A Morbid Taste for Bones by Ellis Peters
  • One Corpse Too Many also by Ellis Peters

And I was still reading:

  • A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickesn
  • Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

I have not finished a single book!  My husband read both of the Cadfael books so while he was reading those I started my Randy Singer book.  It started out very slow.  It also has something like 90 chapters. Thankfully the chapters are short.  Now that I’m over 1/2 way through it, it’s getting good but I’ve set it aside and have actually started reading A Morbid Taste for Bones.

I made progress with Jane Eyre. When last I read I was only on page 350. (of 1147 or something but we’re talking e-book pages) Today I am on page 365.  Ok so it’s not much progress but I’ll eventually finish the book. Maybe.  It’s getting a little better.

I’m embarrassed to admit this but I have misplaced the Dickens book.  I have no idea where it is.  Can’t read it if I can’t find it.  I may just give up and move it to my “didn’t finish” shelf on Goodreads and put it off until Christmas 2013.

I have a (not very good) excuse for not reading so much.  I got sucked into the time vortex of Doctor Who.  Honeybear and I had tried to watch the reboot and start with the 9th Doctor but well the creepiness of the 3rd episode (the one with Charles Dickens and zombies).  I felt like such a failure.  I had tried liking Doctor Who back in the 80’s when my very good friend would rave about the Doctor but I just didn’t “get it’.  It wasn’t my thing.

But then my daughters started begging.  They were tired of being clueless when all these references would be made on Pinterest or Facebook.  And since I really really really want to like the Doctor we convinced the dad man to try again.  (But I refused to re-watch the zombie episode <shudder> )

So instead of reading in the evenings, I’ve been watching lots and lots of the Doctor.  I can’t decide if Rose or Martha is my favorite companion and I’m leaning towards the 9th doctor as my favorite.  I know I did not like Donna.  We’ve all of the 9th, 10th and 11th  doctors episodes that are available on Netflix Streaming.  So we’ve started looking at Classic Dr. Who.

Great Lent is coming and we’ve talked about setting all Doctor Who aside.  This will give me more time to read and I’ve decided I want to read Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis.  Screwtape Letters and Till we Have Faces are on my To-Be-Read-Shelf in Goodreads but I don’t know when I’ll get to them.

So my goals for the rest of March:

  • Finish False Witness

  • Finish Morbid Taste for Bones

  • Read A Corpse Too Many

  • Start Mere Christianity

The plan is to read the the two Cadfael books and then finish False Witness.  I am setting a goal to finish the C.S. Lewis book by May 5th cause that’s my dad’s birthday and it’s Pascha (Eastern Easter)

What are you reading?  Did you set reading goals for 2013?  How many books have you read this year?
