We seldom got out and did things together, so this was fun for us. What has bothered me most in recent years is the number of people going out to get these things for themselves. I appreciate saving money, getting gifts for others, etc. but for many, it is all about greed. No thankfulness, contentment or family. They are missing the point of the holiday.Walking Fruitfullyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17524896571206463918noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2400013537237976584.post-11616899577985492802013-11-26T17:32:36.163-08:002013-11-26T17:32:36.163-08:00Tess, I used to look forward to Black Friday. It was a fun tradition that we got up early had a special morning of shopping and breakfast and came home in time to bring donuts to children for a late breakfast. I remember though when my dad told me a few years ago that pretty soon it wouldn't be Black Friday anymore because they kept pushing up the time earlier and earlier. The last year I went was when they moved it to midnight. Even that I thought was pushing it into Thanksgiving, and honestly that year was just plain scary. Many more people were willing to stay up late then get up early and scoring some good deals was just not worth the masses of crazy people. I have done all my shopping online ever since. I have gotten into several conversations (arguments?) over the subject with my mother. She is excited that they moved it into Thanksgiving and echoes the arguments similar to the ones you posted above. I can't get her to understand (and I won't try anymore) that it is the whole greed issue that bothers me. What was wrong with keeping it on Black Friday? It just doesn't belong on Thanksgiving. I think you said it well. The Happy Homeschool Momhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11431136745408956594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2400013537237976584.post-30336481500623590402013-11-26T17:17:33.995-08:002013-11-26T17:17:33.995-08:00This is wonderful, Tess, and I agree 100%. I worked in retail for years and saw the rush to more stuff---it never sat well with me, and you've put your finger on why.Susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06710205217819146347noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2400013537237976584.post-77761138697800319292013-11-26T17:15:59.313-08:002013-11-26T17:15:59.313-08:00Love it!
