A midlife crisis?

This past Friday night I did something I didn’t think I would ever do.   Last night I told my mother about it:

Me:  “I got a tattoo.”
Mom: (shock in her voice) “You got a tattoo?”
Me:  “It’s ok mom.. It’s a henna tattoo.  It’ll only last 2-3 weeks.”
Mom: (relief in her voice) “Oh, ok.  so what does it look like.”

I felt so YOUNG and so GIDDY.   I felt like a teenager again breaking the news to my mother about my hidden rebellious streak.  It felt good to feel like that.  (Hmm.. what does that say about me?)

I’m enjoying my henna tattoo and my girls love it.  Tailorbear wants to get one.  I’m not sure that I’m ready for my 12 year old to experiment yet but I will say this falls into the “you know you’re a homeschooler when” category:

You know you’re a homeschooler when your 12 year old describes the henna tattoo that she wants to get based on her studies of East Indian Culture and explains about how they use henna tattoos to prepare for their wedding.

Wanna see what it looks like?   I had BooBear take a picture.

  1. Does that use needles or is it painted on?

  2. Jennifer, it is painted on. I don't do needles LOL. I picked out a design and then the artist "painted" it on using henna dye. The "paint" dries and comes off leaving the colored picture.

  3. The rebellious teenager (that never rebelled as a teen) would love to see the look on my Mom's face if I were to tell her that. We weren't even allowed to have the fake tattoos as a kid.

  4. I love it!

I hope your mother has recovered from the shock. ;)

  5. I think it would be cool to get a henna tattoo.

  6. Very cool!! I've wanted a tattoo for almost as long as I can remember, but I am scared of the needles, and my hubby doesn't want me to get one. Maybe a henna tattoo would be a fun way to "try it on" temporarily. 8-)

  7. We've been tempted to do this at the beach before, but never have. I'm too cheap. LOL

  8. That's neat! I've thought about doing that but never have. Good for you! :)

  9. You're a lot smarter than I am. I have real tatoos. In my defense I was 18/19 yo when I got them.

    Yours is nice :)
